I want you to get the care you deserve.
The Story
Unscripted Medicine was born out of a simple, yet somehow radical conviction: health care should not be an assembly line of symptom patches.
For years, conventional medicine has over-focused on medication management, treating the systems of the body as if they operate in complete isolation. In mental health care, this narrow view goes even further—not only treating the mind as if it is separate from the body, but routinely failing to address actual brain health. Patients seeking psychiatric support are all too often met with a one-size-fits-all script, rushed 10-minute symptom checks, and superficial fixes.
I believe we all deserve better. So in early 2026, after some divine intervention, I embarked on the labor-of-love of creating a medical practice where I could provide exactly the type of care patients need most—accessible, affordable, root-cause medicine that offers far more than just standard prescriptions and vague, unrealistic lifestyle advice.
Achieving optimal health is an active, shared journey, and I am here to provide the unhurried time, elite tools, and deep clinical attention required to help patients discover true mental and physical well-being.
The Unscripted Philosophy
-
I believe the mind is a projection of the brain’s health, shaped by genetics, environment, and experiences. I view the body as a "system of systems" where no single organ functions in isolation. I believe nutrition, physical activity, managed stress, and meaningful relationships are biological imperatives that dictate the cellular functions, gut health, and hormonal balance necessary for mental and physical well-being.
-
I believe each patient is a unique individual who deserves the time and space to share their story and define their own success. I believe you are the subject matter expert of your own life and that my role is to provide the medical map, with you as the navigator. I meet you exactly where you are on your healing journey, with the unwavering belief that no one seeking help is beyond help.
-
I believe that patient education is the cornerstone of sustainable healing. I pull back the curtain on how behavior and environment impact your biology, using radical honesty and transparent expectation management to provide you with the tools to take full ownership of your health.
-
I believe the ultimate power to heal lies within the individual. While I provide the clinical foundation through conventional and integrative treatment options, I honor shared decision-making and your absolute autonomy to choose the path that aligns with your life and your values.
A MANIFESTO OF CARE
Meet Jenn Blackwell, PA-C, CAQ-Psych
Founder & Principal Clinician
Born and raised on the coast of Massachusetts, my path to medicine was not a straight line. At UMass Amherst, I majored in biology, with an early focus on evolutionary biology that permanently shaped how I view human health. Following graduation, I joined that Army as a Quartermaster Officer and gained invaluable leadership experience. In 2013, I entered the Interservice Physician Assistant Program at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and went on to serve as a Battalion PA, where I discovered my calling in mental health care. In 2020, I left active duty to step into a new adventure: raising my family and supporting my husband's growing career. Together with our three sons, we have traveled the country, from Colorado to Massachusetts to Alaska, pursuing outdoor adventures and gathering professional development along the way.
Pregnant at the height of the pandemic, my first civilian PA role was providing urgent care via telehealth. In 2021, I transitioned to telepsychiatry and noticed that the vast majority of my patients weren't just struggling mentally, but also battling other chronic diseases. Driven by my relentless pursuit of knowledge, I began researching and realized that a functional medicine approach—focused on systemic healing—was the only path to true psychological and physical wellness. I tried my best to guide patients through these vital lifestyle transformations, but found that the conventional healthcare system simply isn't built for it.
I earned my Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Psychiatry in 2024, and then my mission became deeply personal. I was diagnosed with fatty liver disease and found that, somewhere amidst the noise of cross-country moves and raising young kids, I had lost pieces of my own well-being. In 2025, I made the choice to live and work intentionally, and to determinedly and unapologetically pursue real health. I left the comfort of telehealth and conventional psychiatry to work for a successful, functional medicine practice. Under the mentorship of the nurse practitioner who built the practice, I gained invaluable, hands-on experience helping patients reverse chronic illness and achieve authentic health daily.
Founding Unscripted Medicine is the ultimate culmination of my life's work as a leader, a psychiatric PA, and a functional medicine provider. It brings together all of my professional passions while honoring my stubborn need to live life—and practice medicine—on my own terms.
I love the mountains, I love freedom, and I love guiding people on their journey to discover true health and maximal well-being from the inside out. When I am not caring for patients, you can find me running and hiking through the Alaskan wilderness, riding bikes with my kids, reading, walking my dog, cooking, or trying to master gardening (despite my husband affectionately labeling me a plant killer).
My Mantra
Start simple.
Be intentional.
Do hard things.
Keep going.
